Rule of Law 1, DJT 0

Way behind today after the lovely Miss P had me assembling patio furniture all morning.

Without commenting on the outcome, this is a big week for the rule of law in America. The judge ran a tight courtroom, the Cheeto Messiah received his constitutionally guaranteed due process, and a jury of his neighbors applied law to the facts and returned a verdict. Again, regardless of the outcome, it almost brings tears to my eyes. The judicial system passed one of the greatest stress tests in American history.

And it's not over yet. He'll no doubt appeal the conviction, and a panel of judges will review the trial court record and decide whether the conviction stands. He has some good arguments regarding the application of the statute under which he was convicted, and his lawyers will get to air all of them. Again, it's due process. It's our system working as it should, even as a very vocal cohort tries to tear it down on this strange authoritarian binge we're witnessing.

Now on to the next trial. And the next. And the next.
