Southbound

Another short one, because we're trying to get out of here and start the long trip back to Wyldswood for cleanup. There are no grocery stores open in Perry yet, from what we're told, so we'll be packing in our food for the next couple days. At least we have power again, so there will be a/c, hot showers, and the Traeger smoking some ribs while we work outside. Having gone on some rustic deployments in my life, this feels downright posh by comparison.

Then again, we don't know how it's going to feel to come through the gate and see the mess in person.

We're lucky to be able to fly into KFPY at all. The airport is closed, and Flight Service suggested we call the airport manager and ask if we can land there. As it turns out he's an old friend of the family, and to my amazement he picked up the phone at the airport at 6:30 last night (a Sunday) and told me that we were local, and should feel free to land and tuck the plane into the new hangar we were in the midst of trying to rent. If you're looking for the upside of living in a community with 20,000 folks, and being married to one of their favorite citizens, this would be one example.

The first photos of Wyldswood revealed a mess, but one that appears more manageable than what we expected, or what we found after Idalia.

Probably the toughest part of today will be picking through the remains of Helene, still hanging around Pennsylvania, on our way down there. Some big boy flying ahead, but it doesn't look too bad once we're skirting the Shenandoah.

Time to gird our loins and get after it.
